Tutoring vs. Brain Training

At NeuBrain, we often address how brain training differs from tutoring. Both are useful but serve distinct purposes. Tutoring focuses on delivering and clarifying information, which is helpful when content needs to be repeated or presented differently. However, many learning difficulties arise from weak cognitive skills, not poor instruction. Since 80% of learning challenges are linked to these cognitive weaknesses, simply re-teaching material through tutoring doesn’t address the root problem. Brain training, which enhances cognitive abilities, is crucial for long-term improvement in learning.

Tutoring is often beneficial for students who:

  • Have missed school due to illness
  • Have recently transitioned to a new school
  • Are being taught by a substitute teacher
  • Need help revisiting class materials

Tutoring focuses on providing and clarifying information, making it ideal for situations where a student has missed class or needs material presented differently. It’s useful when external factors, like illness or classroom disruptions, have impacted the learning process. However, if a child struggles with attention or comprehension, brain training may be more effective than just repeating the information.

Brain training is especially effective for students who:

  • Struggle with their schoolwork more than their peers
  • Find it hard to concentrate on lessons and assignments
  • Face challenges with fundamental skills such as reading or math
  • Have previously tried tutoring without seeing significant improvement

Brain training focuses on enhancing core learning and thinking skills, which makes it easier for students to understand, process, and remember information. If your child struggles with attention, homework, or comprehension, brain training addresses the underlying issues rather than just repeating classroom content. By targeting and improving skills like focus, memory, and logical thinking, brain training helps students grasp and retain information more effectively, boosts their confidence, and fosters independent learning. Most importantly, it identifies and tackles the root causes of learning challenges.
